Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It is north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name stems from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Right now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by means of Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains every hour in the course of the week; on Sundays, there are 4 trains each hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the building of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed a lot of people.
In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by five buses, one of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many shopping or leisure opportunities within the town, so people normally go to surrounding areas utilising public transport links or the primary roads.
Barnehurst is house towards the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
