Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It’s north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It’s separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road. The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to develop the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local home and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Now, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham to the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains every hour during the week; on Sundays, there are four trains per hour. The railway station was openedto encourage the creation of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed many individuals. In addition to the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, 1 of which goes to the well-liked Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are not many buying or leisure opportunities within the town, so people normally visit surrounding areas using public transport links or the primary roads. Barnehurst is household towards the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
