Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London inside the London Borough of Bexley. It’s north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It is separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established just after the sale of land in 1881 to make the Bexleyheath loop line in between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local property and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Right now, the railway station runs trains between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, via Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station towards the east. There are 12 trains an hour throughout the week; on Sundays, there are four trains per hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the construction of houses. The Barnehurst Estate was built in 1926 which housed lots of individuals.
As well as the railway station, Barnehurst is served by 5 buses, one of which goes to the popular Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are limited buying or leisure opportunities in the town, so individuals generally go to surrounding places working with public transport links or the main roads.
Barnehurst is property to the non-league football club Phoenix Sports FC, which plays at Phoenimx Sports Ground.
