Barnehurst is a town and district in South East London in the London Borough of Bexley. It’s north east of Bexleyheath, and is 13 miles east south-east of Charing Cross. It’s separated from North Bexleyheath by the A220 Erith Road.
The town was established after the sale of land in 1881 to create the Bexleyheath loop line between Lewisham and Dartford. Its name derives from the name of the railway station, which was named after Colonel Barne, who owned a local house and was vice-chairman of the railway company. Nowadays, the railway station runs trains in between London Charing Cross, London Victoria or London Cannon Street, by way of Lewisham and Eltham towards the west and Dartford railway station to the east. There are 12 trains per hour for the duration of the week; on Sundays, there are four trains every hour. The railway station was openedto stimulate the development of houses.
