Although its importance as an aspect of garden design is sometimes neglected, fencing is a vital part of both the appearance and practicality of your garden. Garden fencing will likely differ between the front and back of properties, with taller and more strong timber fencing generally being installed in the rear garden, while the front of the house often utilises more compact and more decorative fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to feature a low height and large gaps between the wooden slats. It is also often coloured to improve its ornamental effect. Fencing in the back garden is often used for privacy and to maintain the boundaries of a garden, as well as to keep household pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. Due to this, these varieties of fences are roughly 6 feet high and use wooden slats without spaces in between. Because of the added height, these fences often have concrete footings laid in between each section to offer strength which will help prevent the fence from blowing over or being damaged in high winds. Garden fencing sections are generally made of wood. The posts in between the sections are manufactured from either wood, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be manufactured from heavily recycled and eco friendly composite materials such as recycled bamboo.

Hexham is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Northumberland. It lies south of the River Tyne, and was the administrative hub for the Tynedale area from 1974 to 2009. Smaller towns and villages surrounding Hexham consist of Corbridge, Riding Mill, Stocksfield and Wylam towards the east, Acomb and Bellingham towards the north, Allendale towards the south and Haydon Bridge, Bardon Mill and Haltwhistle to the west. Newcastle upon Tyne is roughly 25 miles (40 km) to the east. With reference to the 2011 Census, the town has a permanent population of about 11829. Hexham’s architectural landscape is headed by Hexham Abbey. The current church predominately dates from approximately 1170, constructed in the Early English Gothic style of architecture. The choir, north and south transepts and the cloisters, where canons studied and meditated, date from this time frame. The east end was reconstructed in 1860. The abbey stands at the west end of the market place, which is home to the Shambles, a Grade II covered market constructed in 1766 by Sir Walter Blackett. At the east end of the market place is the Moot Hall, a 15th-century gatehouse that belonged to the town’s defences. The Moot Hall is a Grade I listed building, and was used as a court house until 1838. The Moot Hall now houses the Council offices of the Museums Department and the ground floor is an art gallery open up to hire. Hexham won the Town award in the 2005 Britain in Bloom awards. In the same year Hexham was also called ‘England’s Favourite Market Town’ by the magazine ‘Country Life’.
