Although its significance as an aspect of garden design is sometimes disregarded, fencing is an essential part of both the appearance and functionality of your garden. Garden fencing tends to differ between the front and rear of properties, with taller and more sturdy wooden fencing usually being placed in the rear garden, while the front of the house often makes use of smaller and more decorative fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to have a low height and large spaces between the wooden slats. Also, it is often coloured to enhance its ornamental effect. Fencing in the back garden is often used for privacy and to protect the borders of a garden, as well as to keep domestic pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. Because of this, these kinds of fences are around 6 feet high and use wooden slats with no spaces in between. Due to the added height, these fences usually have concrete footings laid between each section to provide security preventing the fence from blowing over or being ruined in poor weather. Garden fencing panels are generally constructed from wood. The posts in between the panels are produced from either timber, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be constructed from heavily recycled and sustainable composite materials such as recycled bamboo.

Bacup is a town in Lancashire, England, in the South Pennines close to Lancashire’s boundary line with West Yorkshire. The town is within the Forest of Rossendale and the upper Irwell Valley, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) east of Rawtenstall, 6.4 miles (10.3 km) north of Rochdale, and 21 miles (34 kilometres) to the east of Preston. As per the 2011 Census, Bacup has a permanent population of roughly 13323 inhabitants. Bacup was established as a settlement following the Anglo-Saxon settlement of Britain in the Early Middle Ages. For centuries, it was a small and obscure centre of domestic flannel and woollen cloth production, and many of the original weavers’ cottages survive today as listed buildings. Following the Industrial Revolution, Bacup became a mill town, growing around the now covered bridge crossing the River Irwell and the North-South / East-West crossroad at its centre. In the course of that time, its landscape became increasingly dominated by recognisable and substantially sized rectangular woollen and cotton mills. Bacup received a charter of incorporation in 1882, which gave it municipal borough status and its own elected town government, comprising a mayor, aldermen and councillors to oversee local affairs. During the late 20th century, Bacup became a part of the borough of Rossendale. Bacup’s historic character, culture and festivities have led to the town’s suburbanisation and redevelopment as a more cosmopolitan commuter town for Manchester and other North West towns and cities. Nonetheless, English Heritage has named Bacup as the best preserved cotton town in England, and its town centre is named as a conservation area for its distinctive architectural qualities.
