Fencing

Although its importance as an element of garden design is often overlooked, fencing is a vital part of both the aesthetics and useability of your garden. Garden fencing will likely differ between the front and back of properties, with taller and more substantial wooden fencing usually being installed in the rear garden, while the front of the house typically makes use of smaller sized and more attractive fencing. Fencing for the front of the home tends to have a low height and large spaces between the wooden slats. It is also often stained to improve its decorative effect. Fencing in the back garden is typically used for privacy and to protect the boundaries of a garden, as well as to keep domestic pets or other small animals or wildlife either in or out. For this reason, these kinds of fences are roughly 6 feet high and use wooden slats without gaps in between. Because of the additional height, these fences commonly have concrete footings laid between each panel to offer stability which will help prevent the fence from blowing over or being destroyed in bad weather. Garden fencing panels are generally made of wood. The posts in between the sections are manufactured from either wood, stone, or concrete. More recently, fence panels have started to be made of heavily recycled and sustainable composite materials such as recycled bamboo.
