Astro Turf, or artificial turf, is utilised in place of natural grass. Astro Turf is the name of the first artificial turf that was developed by Monsanto, but it quickly became a widespread term for artificial turf generally.
Astro turf is made up of synthetic fibres with a combination of sand and recycled rubber granules as infills. It is used extensively in sports applications, such as on football and rugby pitches, tennis courts as well as golf courses.
There are a developing variety of industrial applications for astro turf, such as workplace buildings, concerts and festivals and department stores.
