Alcester is a market town and also civil parish of Roman origin at the joint of the River Alne and River Arrow in Warwickshire, England, approximately 8 miles (13 kilometres) west of Stratford-upon-Avon, and also 8 miles south of Redditch, close to the Worcestershire boundary. The 2011 census tape-recorded a population of 6,273. Today the community includes style from the Middle ages, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian and 20th century. The oldest house seems The Old Malthouse at the edge of Church Road and Malt Mill Lane, which probably dates from about 1500. The clock on St Nicholas Church (Quality 2 *) is in an unusual setting on the south-west edge of the 14th-century tower, making it noticeable from the High Street. The church also houses the tomb of Fulke Greville, grandfather of Fulke Greville, 1st Baron Brooke. The church’s Georgian nave with Doric columns as well as plastered ceiling is believed to have actually been made by Francis Smith of Warwick, manager of its restore by Woodward bros of Chipping Camden in 1729.
