Abertillery, which translates as ‘mouth of the River Tyleri’, is the biggest town of the Ebbw Fach valley in what was the historic county of Monmouthshire, South Wales. After local government reorganisation it came to be a part of the Blaenau Gwent County Borough administrative region.
